Women Football Hauptle outlines what she wants to achieve with Zambia’s Copper Queens

Former Switzerland defender Nora Hauptle has discussed her immediate plans for Zambia’s Copper Queens after she was unveiled as the head coach on Friday.

The former Black Queens of Ghana coach takes over from Bruce Mwape who will be sent to Morocco to pursue a CAF Pro course in the Association’s continued investment of local coaches to strengthen the local pool.

Hauptle said it was a pleasure to be announced as head coach of the Copper Queens. “It was always a wish for me to take over this team because there are so many fantastic players, there is so much potential I see in this team and of course, I know that the expectations are very high. The team already got bronze (at the WAFCON 2022) and it’s our objective to go and top this result,” Hauptle said.

“Furthermore, we want to qualify for the big tournaments, be back at the FIFA Women’s World Cup, Olympics and pass the group stage. We also need to ensure that we do the right development steps, results don’t just fall from the sky. We must have a lot of preparatory games that we invest in our youth teams with U17 World Cup, so I am very curious to take over the work and I will ensure that I give my all in.”

The 41-year-old was happy with the roadmap that the Association had put in place ahead of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco in July.

“In February, we will play a tournament here at home because we want to invite all the Zambians to participate. I am curious of the crowd and the atmosphere so it’s important to stay home in February. We will try to go to a tournament in April, then there is the end of May where we are also discussing what we are going to do then we have preparations for the WAFCON but we are setting up a roadmap to ensure that we are ready for the WAFCON in July,” the Swiss said.
