Premier League Ruben Amorim already under pressure at Manchester United

Ruben Amorim already under pressure at Manchester United

Ruben Amorim’s early days at Manchester United are proving difficult, with mounting doubts about his methods. After nearly three months in charge, his record stands at nine wins, eight losses, and two draws in 19 matches, with his side conceding as many goals as they have scored (34).

Despite initially lifting the team from 13th place in the Premier League, they remain stuck in the same position, with European qualification slipping further out of reach. Worse yet, the Portuguese manager has already suffered five home defeats in seven league games, dampening any optimism that followed his high-profile appointment.

While standout results like the win against Manchester City (3-2) and a hard-fought FA Cup penalty shootout victory at Arsenal have provided some positives, their Europa League performances have been unconvincing, barely overcoming lesser opposition.

Club legend Gary Neville has even suggested that Amorim is struggling more than his predecessor, Erik ten Hag, pointing to a lack of response from the squad to the new system.

Amorim’s transition to a three-man defense has yet to yield results, and injuries, including Lisandro Martínez’s season-ending setback, have only added to his woes. Meanwhile, the January transfer window failed to provide reinforcements, with Marcus Rashford and Antony leaving on loan while only young full-back Patrick Dorgu arrived.

Tensions in the dressing room are also growing, particularly between Amorim and Garnacho, who has been one of the few bright spots in recent months. With pressure mounting and confidence dwindling, the upcoming FA Cup clash against Leicester could be a crucial moment for the Portuguese coach. A deep cup run might be his best chance to restore faith in his project and silence the growing concerns.
