Premier League Slot Gets Two-Match Touchline Ban After Merseyside Derby Draw

Arne Slot’s red card during Liverpool’s draw against Everton might result in a lengthy two-match touchline ban.

After the final whistle, Slot and his assistant, Spike Hulshoff, confronted referee Michael Oliver in protest of James Tarkowski’s late equaliser.

Oliver gave a goal, and VAR confirmed the judgement, despite Liverpool’s insistence that there had been a foul in the build-up.

The Dutchman shook hand with Oliver who then gave him a red card.

His removal raised eyebrows, and the Premier League later said that it was because he had used “offensive, insulting, or abusive language.”

In a statement, the Premier League said: “Liverpool head coach Arne Slot was dismissed at the end of the Merseyside derby for using offensive, insulting, or abusive language.

“He is handed a two-match touchline ban as a result.”

Since the Premier League removed the aforementioned statement from their official website, there has been uncertainty on whether that is, in fact, the case.

Given that Mirror Football is aware that the FA is awaiting the referee’s report before reaching a decision, they may have acted prematurely.

Due to Premier League regulations, Slot was unable to carry out his post-match media responsibilities after being sent off after Wednesday’s encounter.

When struggling Wolves arrive on Sunday, first team coach Jonny Heitinga may be in command.

And if Hulshoff receives a two-match suspension as well, he might keep that position for Wednesday’s trip to Aston Villa.

Oliver also dismissed Liverpool star Curtis Jones for his role in starting the major altercation that erupted following the game.

Jones taunted the Liverpool supporters by pushing Abdoulaye Doucoure of Everton after he had celebrated in front of them.
