Dstv Premiership Stellenbosch FC through to Nedbank Cup quarters after Polokwane City win

Stellenbosch FC showcased their supremacy over Polokwane City, securing a 2-0 victory in a gripping Nedbank Cup last 16 encounter at Danie Craven Stadium.

The match was marked by attacking play and a defensive masterclass from the home side.

From the onset, Stellenbosch were on the front foot. Early attempts by Genino Palace and Lesiba Nku were thwarted by the vigilant Polokwane goalkeeper Manuel Sapunga, but it was clear the pressure was mounting.

The deadlock was broken in the 13th minute when an unfortunate own goal by Polokwane’s Bulelani Nikani gave Stellenbosch the lead. Stellenbosch continued to dominate, with Devin Titus proving to be a constant threat.

Titus’ persistence paid off in the 37th minute when he doubled the lead with a fine left-footed finish into the top right corner, assisted by Khomotjo Lekoloane.

This goal was a testament to the teamwork and fluid movements of the Stellenbosch attack.

Despite Polokwane City’s efforts to claw back into the game, their shots were either off target or well-saved by the Stellenbosch goalkeeper Sage Stephens.
