
Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah’s goals helped Liverpool defeat lowly Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 on Sunday, extending their advantage at the top of the Premier League to seven points.
After Diaz bundled in on 15 minutes and won a penalty later in the half, the Reds appeared to be cruising at 2-0.
Salah, the league’s top scorer, converted the penalty with ease, his 23rd league goal.

But when Matheus Cunha curled a low effort superbly past Alisson in the 67th minute, Wolves, who were struggling for their lives near the foot of the table, gave them a few scares and punished Liverpool for a careless second half.
With closest rivals Arsenal on 53, Arne Slot’s team managed to hold on for the victory in an exciting final at a comparatively quiet Anfield, moving them up to 60 points and still in the running for the Premier League crown.
Thirteen games remain for both sides. Wolves are two points above the drop zone in 17th place with 19 points.
Even though Liverpool wasn’t at their best, particularly in the tense second half, the win was a tremendous relief following a week of strange mishaps, which included Everton’s last-minute league equaliser against them and an FA Cup loss to second-tier Plymouth.
The Reds appeared at ease in the first half as Diaz scored when Toti Gomes’ attempted clearing fell to him.
In the 37th minute, Wolves goalie Jose Sa hauled down the quick Colombian, allowing Salah to do what he always does: score easily from the penalty spot.
The away fans were dreaming of a comeback after Cunha, who was by far Wolves’ finest player, had just missed a free kick before his spectacular effort from outside the area.
