Jonah Patrick Kakande was the match winner as SC Villa took bragging rights in the 1-0 home victory over bitter rivals Express on Saturday.
The Villa forward struck from the penalty spot on 54 minutes after Ashraf Mbazira handled in the forbidden area. The clash at the Prisons Ground, Luzira was largely for bragging rights this weekend as both defending champions, Villa, and Express are almost silent in the title talk – as of today.
Villa’s only sixth win in 17 matches has them in sixth place with 24 points on the StarTimes Uganda Premier League table.
That is 13 points behind leaders Vipers SC, and one behind their day’s victims, Express, who have now fallen one place down to fourth following URA’s victory later in the evening. Villa’s win will raise their spirits having started the second round by dropping two points at Wakiso Giants.
For Express, they cannot wait to get back to winning ways as this was their second successive defeat of the second round.
At Nakivubo, Moses Aliro headed home a 30th minute winner as URA beat Maroons 1-0 to move the Tax Collectors to third in the standings. URA have 27 points, 10 behind leaders Vipers. Maroons remain eighth on 23 points.
