Despite repeated attempts by successive Black Stars coaches to convince him, Alfred Duncan remains firm in his decision to stay away from the Ghana national team.
Since 2019, every head coach of the Black Stars has traveled to Italy to speak with the talented midfielder, hoping to lure him back into the squad. However, the Venezia star has made it clear that he has no intention of returning, citing past treatment by the national team as the reason.
“With the national team, it’s kind of complicated…because I wasn’t getting the respect I think I deserved. It was best to part ways in order for the younger ones or the ones they think were right for the team to get the chance to play,” Duncan revealed.
At 32 years old, the experienced midfielder has accepted that his international career is behind him. Despite his undeniable talent and years of playing at the highest level in Serie A, he feels his time with Ghana was never fully appreciated.
Duncan’s decision is a major loss for the Black Stars, as his experience and quality could have been valuable in the team’s quest for success. However, he remains focused on his club career with Venezia, where he continues to impress.
