The Football Association of Zambia (AGM) elective provincial assemblies kickoff today (Saturday) with Southern Province being the first in a 10-stop journey.
According to the FIFA approved roadmap, Southern Province will be electing their executive committee that will preside over their football affairs in the next four years. Under the revised FIFA aligned constitution, FAZ holds elections in all the provinces with the chairperson sitting in the national executive committee.
The rest of the officials to be elected are vice chairperson, women representative, youth representative and committee member. With FAZ now decentralized and anchored in all the 10 provinces, the regional leadership are critical in driving the football agenda and connecting their regions to the national structure.
The four elected officials (excluding the chairperson) will be expected to vote during the national elective AGM in Livingstone on March 29. Under the inclusive current FAZ set up, all 10 provinces are entitled to four votes in the national election marking a huge step in embracing all 10 regions in the selection of national leadership.
According to the schedule, Lusaka, Central, North Western, and Copperbelt will hold their elective congresses on March 16, 17, 18, and 19, respectively. The next cycle will see Luapula, Northern, Muchinga, Western, and Eastern holding their elective conferences on March 20, 21, 22, 25, and 27 in that order.
Notably, while the focus may be primarily on elections, the AGM will be an opportunity for members to discuss financials and approve the budget. Members will also look back on the last 12 months of the province’s football trajectory and set the tone for the future.
In line with its established ethos of transparency and accountability, FAZ has provided its membership with a detailed roadmap from December 21, 2024 when the date of elections was announced by the executive committee.
The FAZ elective AGM has been set for Livingstone on March 29 with five candidates lining up for the presidency namely the incumbent Andrew Kamanga, Emmanuel Munaile, Francis Hafwiti, Keith Mweemba and Adrian Kashala.
