Ghana Lawrence Agyekum Earns Late Black Stars Call-Up for World Cup Qualifiers

Ghana’s national team, the Black Stars, has made a late squad adjustment ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar. Cercle Brugge midfielder Lawrence Agyekum has been drafted into the team as a replacement for Elisha Owusu, who was ruled out due to injury.

Owusu, who plays for French club AJ Auxerre, was expected to play a key role in the upcoming fixtures, but an untimely injury has forced him to withdraw. This opened the door for Agyekum, who has been impressing with his performances in Belgium.

The 20-year-old midfielder now has a golden opportunity to prove himself on the international stage as Ghana looks to secure vital points in their qualifying campaign. The Black Stars are set to face Chad on March 21 before taking on Madagascar on March 24, with both matches crucial for their hopes of reaching the 2026 World Cup.

Agyekum’s inclusion adds youthful energy and dynamism to the squad, and fans will be eager to see what he can bring to the midfield.
