Former Ghana U20 captain Daniel Afriyie Barnieh was on the scoresheet for FC Zürich U21 in their narrow 2-1 defeat to SC Kriens in the Swiss Promotion League over the weekend.

Barnieh, who joined the Swiss side from Ghanaian giants Hearts of Oak, struck in the second half to reduce the deficit after Zürich had gone two goals down. His goal injected some hope into the match for the young Zürich side, but despite their efforts, they were unable to find an equalizer.

The 22-year-old attacker, who famously led Ghana to the U20 Africa Cup of Nations title in 2021, has been gradually making his mark in Switzerland. His performance against Kriens showcased his sharp instincts and leadership qualities—traits that made him a fan favorite at Hearts of Oak and a respected figure in Ghana’s youth setup.

With consistent performances like this, Barnieh is knocking on the door of FC Zürich’s senior team- a team he was once part of in his early season but had to move to the youth side after recovering from injury. The talented forward will be hoping to earn more minutes at the top level as he continues his development in Europe.
