The Premier League team announced on Monday that Eddie Howe, the manager of Newcastle United, is recuperating in the hospital following a pneumonia diagnosis and will miss this week’s games.
After feeling ill for a few days, the 47-year-old was detained in the hospital and missed Sunday’s 4-1 Premier League victory over Manchester United.
He missed Newcastle defeating the Old Trafford team in the league for the first time since 1930–31.

“A huge thank you to everyone connected with Newcastle United and the wider football community for your messages and warm wishes.
They have meant a lot to me and my family,” Howe said in a statement from the club.
After coaching Burnley and Bournemouth before joining Newcastle in 2021, Howe has become a hero there.
In March, he guided the team to victory over Liverpool in the League Cup final, earning the team its first domestic trophy in seven decades and making him the first homegrown coach to win one of England’s top domestic awards since 2008.
In the city’s streets, 150,000 Newcastle supporters celebrated him, and a huge banner was raised outside St. James’ Park in his honour.
The team will be led by Jason Tindall and Graeme Jones for the games against Crystal Palace on Wednesday and Aston Villa on Saturday.
With 56 points, Newcastle is ranked fourth in the standings.
