La Liga earns fifth Champions League spot for 202526 season

Spain will have five teams in the 2025/26 Champions League. The confirmation came on Thursday night after Lazio’s elimination from the Europa League, coupled with Betis and Athletic Bilbao reaching the semi-finals of their respective European competitions.

These results sealed La Liga’s position among the top two leagues in UEFA’s seasonal performance ranking, which awards bonus Champions League spots.

So far, FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atlético de Madrid, Athletic Bilbao, and Villarreal are the confirmed qualifiers. However, there’s still a chance for a sixth Spanish club to join them if Athletic Bilbao wins the Europa League without finishing in the league’s top four.

In total, eight Spanish clubs will feature in European competitions next season across the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League—a clear demonstration of La Liga’s depth and continental strength.
