African players abroad Wissa and Mbeumo Run Riot as Brentford Down Brighton in 4-2 Thriller

Brentford’s attacking duo of Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo delivered a scintillating performance as the Bees powered to a 4-2 win over Brighton at the Gtech Community Stadium, showcasing exactly why they’re one of the most dangerous counter-attacking sides in the league.

It was Mbeumo who set the tone early, netting in just the ninth minute to give Brentford the perfect start. The Cameroonian latched onto a smart pass after some crisp, intricate passing in midfield — Keane Lewis-Potter driving forward from left wing-back and picking out Mbeumo between the lines. The forward burst through and calmly slotted past Marc Verbruggen to make it 1-0 — the eighth time he’s opened the scoring in the Premier League this season.

After Brighton hit back, Mbeumo restored Brentford’s lead with his second of the night. Picking up the ball on the right corner of the box, he opened his body and struck with his favoured left foot. The shot was heading on target but took a deflection off Lewis Dunk’s chest and nestled into the bottom corner to make it 2-1.

Then came the Wissa-Mbeumo show.

Yoane Wissa turned provider first, sliding a clever pass across goal for Mbeumo to bury his second — a goal that underlined their understanding in transition. But moments later, the pair switched roles in style.

Mbeumo cut inside and picked out Wissa with a sharp cut-back. The Congolese forward showed great movement to shake off his marker, create half a yard, and let fly. His strike took a telling deflection off Jan Paul van Hecke and looped in — a third goal and a moment that handed Brentford full control at 3-1.

That move, like so many of Brentford’s attacks this season, was textbook: quick, incisive, and perfectly executed. Their counters almost always unfold like two-versus-two or three-on-three duels, and in those spaces, players like Wissa and Mbeumo thrive.

Wissa’s goal capped a brilliant team effort — another slick passing move, another sharp finish. Brentford’s attacking rhythm was simply too much for Brighton to handle.

Mbeumo finished with two goals and an assist, while Wissa added a goal and an assist of his own — a performance that underlined their value in Brentford setup.
