Eredivisie Feyenoord eyes Champions League under rising coach van Persie

Feyenoord eyes Champions League under rising coach van Persie

Robin van Persie’s coaching debut with Feyenoord is turning heads in Dutch football. After a progressive path from striker coach to head of Heerenveen, van Persie was called back to Rotterdam in February to replace Brian Priske.

Despite a tough early loss in Europe to Inter Milan, his impact has been immediate. Feyenoord has won seven league matches in a row, a first since 1969, positioning themselves third in the Eredivisie and on track for Champions League qualification. “It’s good to know, we’re also on the right track,” he said after their latest win.

His journey has already been marked by resilience—such as bouncing back from a humiliating 9-1 loss with Heerenveen—and his style of play and leadership have impressed the Feyenoord board. With stars like Igor Paixao and David Hancko likely to leave, the club is already preparing for the future, targeting Sem Steijn, the league’s top scorer.

For van Persie, the end of the season holds both pressure and promise, but his start as head coach suggests a bright future on the touchline.
