A new era for Zambian football as Keith Mweemba has been elected as the new President of the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ). The election, held earlier today, saw Mweemba convincingly beat incumbent Andrew Kamanga, ending the latter’s tenure at the helm of Zambian football.
Mweemba secured 45 votes, a clear majority, ahead of Kamanga who managed 20 votes. Former FAZ General Secretary Adrian Kashala received 17 votes, while former Chipolopolo international Emmanuel Munaile failed to register a single vote.
The result reflects a significant shift in confidence from the football electorate, many of whom have voiced the need for change and revitalization in both grassroots and elite football in the country.
Speaking moments after the announcement, Mweemba expressed gratitude to the delegates and promised a new chapter for Zambian football.
“This is not just a personal victory—it is a win for everyone who believes in the future of our football. I’m humbled by the trust placed in me and fully aware of the responsibility that lies ahead,” he said.
The election outcome ends Kamanga’s reign which has been marked by mixed reviews—praised for financial restructuring but criticized for inconsistent national team performances and limited youth development.
As he takes office, Mweemba is expected to address key concerns including domestic league restructuring, improved youth systems, enhanced transparency, and stronger support for the national teams.
The Zambian football community now watches with anticipation as the new leadership sets its agenda for the years to come.
