Eberechi Eze of Crystal Palace ignited a huge celebration in south London by scoring the lone goal to win the FA Cup 1-0 against Manchester City on Saturday, earning the team their first major trophy ever.
After 16 minutes, local boy Eze volleyed in, former Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson heroically saved the Palace goal, and City wasted a tonne of chances, including a penalty, in an exciting final.
There were wild celebrations after Palace had to withstand a siege by City when England forward Eze, whose goals in the last eight and semis sent his team reach the final for the third time, scored entirely against the flow of play.
Henderson stopped Omar Marmoush’s first-half penalty as City lost in the Cup final for the second straight season.
This ends a terrible season in which City has lost their position as the dominant team in English football and will not win a domestic trophy for the first time since 2016–17.
Following losses in their previous two FA Cup final appearances in 1990 and 2016, Oliver Glasner’s team rode their luck to make it third time lucky, bringing unmitigated joy to Palace’s massed ranks dressed in purple and blue.
