Nigeria Women Football League NWFL: Bayelsa Queens Reign Supreme As Champions For 6th Time

At the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne on Saturday, the Bayelsa Queens defeated the Naija Ratels 4-1 on the last day of the Super Six playoffs, securing their title as the 2025 Nigeria Women’s Football League Premiership winners.

Prosperity Girls finished first in the championship table with 10 points after five games, winning their sixth league title and their first since 2022.

With nine points, they finished second, defeating Nasarawa Amazons, who were halted to a goalless draw by Edo Queens in their last game. In order to win the title, Bayelsa needed to defeat Ratels going into their matchup.

Due to Vera Samuel’s overpowering play that day, they seized the lead in the 27th minute.

Itunu Adeshina gave the Naija Ratels an equaliser in the 43rd minute, but that was the only highlight of the game.

Bayelsa Queens came back with a newfound vigour in the second half, and Cynthia Mega gave them the lead again in the 47th minute before Samuel scored her second goal six minutes later to make it 3-1.

Rivers Angels won the title with a resounding performance at the Remo Stars Stadium, defeating Remo Stars Ladies 2-1 thanks to a brace from Titilayo Aweda.

The home team’s goal from Aisha Animashaun was insufficient to change the result.

Despite their victory, Rivers Angels ended up with seven points at the end, four points behind Edo Queens on goal differential.

Individual honours were also announced at the end of the season.

After scoring 15 goals in 19 games, Remo Stars Ladies attacker Bolaji Olamide was crowned the 2025 NWFL Premiership Top Scorer.

Meanwhile, Nasarawa Amazons’ star midfielder Jenat Akekeromowei was awarded the Most Valuable Player of the 2025 NWFL Premiership Super Six.

She scored four goals during the playoff phase, taking her overall tally to 13 for the season, and was vital in her team’s strong title push.
