Following their victory against Chippa United in their mid-week clash, which confirmed them as champions of the inaugural Betway Premiership, Mamelodi Sundowns will be playing their last league game of this campaign, before lifting their 8th consecutive league silverware. They are hosting Magesi FC on Sunday afternoon at Loftus Versfeld.
The midweek clash in East London confirmed Masandawana’s 15th league title, an eighth consecutive one. Speaking to midfield maestro Marcelo Allende, he expressed his exultation over winning another league title.
“It is a nice feeling to win the championship again. It’s different from any other feeling we have had this season. We are so happy and proud, and I would like to congratulate the entire Mamelodi Sundowns family for this achievement,” he said.
Despite having won the league, there is one more game to play, and Allende stated that his side will not take this fixture for granted. He suggested that the team is looking to finish strong before they shift their focus to the CAF Champions League final. He also admitted that playing against a side like Magesi FC will not be easy.
“It’s our last league game of the season, so we will need to finish strong. Here at Mamelodi Sundowns, we play to win. So, the mandate heading to Sunday’s game, even though we have won the league already, will be to win. It is important for us to win this game as preparation for the Champions League game next week,” the midfield maestro stated.
Magesi is a strong team. We have already played two games against them this season. They beat us in a cup final, and we won in the league game. So, I know it will be a difficult game. We will need to take this game seriously and make sure we win it,” he concluded.
