Friendly Malawi Scorchers step up preps for friendly against Morocco

The Malawi National Women’s team continued to shape up ahead of next week’s international friendly match against Morocco in Casablanca.

This will be a fifth international friendly match for the team this year as they played two matches against Zambia in February and another two against South in April. The matches are being used to prepare for the final 2026 WAFCON qualifying tie against Angola in October.

The team started camp training at Mpira Village on Monday and head Coach Lovemore Fazili says all the girls who are in camp are responding positively.

“Everything is okay, and players are responding well. We have all the local players that we called into camp except midfielder Asimenye Simwaka who travelled outside the country for other duties, but she will join is on Friday.

“The friendly match against Morocco will give us a good test ahead of the Angola match and we are very hopeful that by the time will be playing our qualifier, we will have prepared well and there won’t be excuses.” said Fazili.

The team will be missing the services of defender Chimwemwe Madise and Temwa Chawinga in Morocco as the two have engagements with their respective clubs during the period. Meanwhile, France-based Rose Kabzere joined the team on Tuesday and had her first training session with the team on Wednesday.

Captain Tabitha Chawinga is expected to join the team at Mpira Palace on Friday while Vanessa Chikupira and Bernadetta Mkandawire will travel straight to Morocco from Kazakhstan. The Scorchers are expected to leave for Morocco on Monday, 16th June 2025 and the friendly match is scheduled for Thursday, 19th June.
