Cameroon Geremi Njitap Handed Five-Year Ban by FECAFOOT Following AFCON Locker Room Incident

Former Cameroon international and ex-Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) executive Geremi Njitap has been suspended from all football-related activities for a period of five years, following disciplinary actions stemming from an incident during the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire.

The decision, announced by FECAFOOT’s disciplinary committee, follows a thorough investigation into events that unfolded inside the Indomitable Lions’ dressing room during the tournament. Though details of the incident remain officially undisclosed, sources indicate that it involved a serious breach of conduct that compromised team unity and brought the federation into disrepute.

In addition to the suspension, Geremi Njitap has been slapped with a fine of €15,244.91.

Njitap, who captained Cameroon during his playing days and has held various administrative roles since retirement, has yet to publicly respond to the ruling. His suspension marks a significant fall from grace for a figure once celebrated for his contributions both on and off the pitch.

Also implicated in the incident was Daniel Blaise Ngos, who has been suspended for two years and fined €7,622.45. Ngos, believed to have played a supporting role in the matter, will similarly be barred from football-related activities for the duration of his suspension.

FECAFOOT emphasized that the sanctions are part of the federation’s renewed commitment to discipline and professionalism across all levels of Cameroonian football. The body has urged current and former officials to uphold the highest standards of conduct, especially when representing the nation on international platforms.

As the fallout from the 2024 AFCON continues, this development adds another layer of complexity to Cameroon’s post-tournament narrative, sparking widespread debate among fans and former players alike.
