Asante Kotoko have officially parted ways with a number of players following the conclusion of the 2024/25 football season, signaling the start of a major squad overhaul as the club sets its sights on a strong showing in the upcoming CAF Confederation Cup.
Among the most high-profile exits is club captain Justice Blay, whose departure marks the end of an era. Blay, known for his combative midfield presence and leadership qualities, has been a cornerstone of the Porcupine Warriors in recent seasons. However, the club has opted for a fresh direction as part of its broader restructuring strategy.
Another notable exit is Nigerian striker Fernando Wisdom Bassey, who joined Kotoko from Sporting Lagos in August 2024. Despite a promising start in pre-season and making 16 league appearances, Bassey struggled to find form, registering just one goal throughout the campaign. His underwhelming impact prompted the club to cut ties just a year into his contract.
In addition to Blay and Bassey, goalkeeper Frederick Asare, defender Daniel Adrian Adjetey, midfielder Kwasi Asante, right-back Samuel Tenadu, and forward Sampson Eduku have all been released as the club makes room for new reinforcements.
Sources close to the club suggest this is only the beginning of a broader reshuffle as Kotoko aim to rebuild a competitive squad capable of challenging both domestically and on the continental stage.
With preparations for the 2025/26 season already underway, the Porcupine Warriors are expected to be active in the transfer market, with fans eagerly awaiting news of fresh signings to bolster the team’s ambitions.
