Friendly Super Falcons Hold Portugal To Goalless In Friendly

On Monday, Nigeria’s Super Falcons played an international friendly match in Amadora, held Portugal to a 0-0 draw.

The Super Falcons were playing the game as part of their preparations for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco this year.

The two sides will now face each other for the second time; their first meeting was a friendly match in 2021 that finished in a 3-3 draw.

Although the Portuguese had the first half advantage, the Super Falcons performed better in the second half, particularly after Ifeoma Onumonu, Halimotu Ayinde, and Ashleigh Plumptre were triple introduced to replace Echehini, Usani, and Rinsola Babajide.

With a series of crucial stops to keep the Portuguese out, Chiamaka Nnadozie was excellent for the nine-time African champions.

Prior to the encounter against the Falcons, Portugal had suffered four straight defeats.

Before the match against Portugal, the Super Falcons won 2-0 over Cameroon on June 3.

The team lead by coach Justin Madugu will play another friendly match on Sunday, June 29 against the Black Queens of Ghana.
