Asante Kotoko striker Kwame Opoku has described winning the 2024/25 MTN FA Cup as a dream come true, marking a significant milestone in his career after a challenging period abroad.
Opoku, who rejoined the Porcupine Warriors following a difficult stint in Algeria, played a key role in Kotoko’s triumphant FA Cup campaign, which culminated in a hard-fought victory over Golden Kicks in the final.
“Winning a trophy with Asante Kotoko was a dream come true,” Opoku said. “You can’t play for Kotoko for two or three seasons without winning something with the club. That’s the standard and the responsibility that comes with wearing this jersey.”
The 25-year-old striker returned to Kumasi with a point to prove after his move to Algerian side USM Alger failed to reach expectations. His return to Kotoko offered a second chance—one he seized with hunger and determination.
Throughout the FA Cup campaign, Opoku’s energy, physicality, and eye for goal gave Kotoko a new dimension in attack. His contributions were vital as the Reds powered through the knockout rounds and eventually lifted the trophy—adding another chapter to the club’s illustrious history.
The FA Cup triumph not only ended a trophy drought for the club but also restored belief among the fans that Kotoko is on the path back to glory.
For Opoku, it’s more than just a winner’s medal—it’s a moment of redemption and fulfillment.
Kwame Opoku together with his team mates are preparing for their next assignment against Hearts of Oak in the President’s Cup on the 6th of July.
