2026 FIFA World Cup: Argentina takes legal action over fake claims

Argentina’s Football Association (AFA) is preparing legal action after the 2026 FIFA World Cup following what it describes as a coordinated disinformation campaign against the national team and its players.

Argentina returned home after losing the World Cup final to Spain, but frustration quickly shifted from the result on the pitch to the controversies that surrounded the team’s campaign throughout the tournament.

According to La Nación, the AFA has instructed a team of lawyers to build cases against individuals and organizations that allegedly spread false information during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The federation plans to target defamatory content, manipulated images, misleading videos and unverified accusations that circulated across digital platforms. Lawyers have already started collecting screenshots, videos and social media posts as evidence.

The legal action could involve major media organizations, influential content creators and individual social media users who shared material that the AFA considers defamatory. The Argentine federation intends to defend the reputation of its players and the national team through the courts, with further legal developments expected in the coming days after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
