2026 FIFA World Cup: Balogun fires USA ahead at halftime

The United States moved a step closer to the round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after taking a 1-0 lead against Bosnia and Herzegovina at halftime in their round of 32 clash.

Backed by a passionate home crowd, the Americans controlled possession from the opening minutes and created the better chances. Their persistence finally paid off in first-half stoppage time when Folarin Balogun found the back of the net to give the Stars and Stripes a deserved advantage.

Bosnia and Herzegovina defended with discipline for most of the first half and frustrated the American attack for long periods. However, the pressure continued to build as the United States dominated the ball and repeatedly threatened in the final third. Just as the teams appeared set to head into the break level, Balogun broke the deadlock with a clinical finish in the 45th minute.

The United States entered halftime with a valuable 1-0 lead and took control of the tie, while Bosnia and Herzegovina faced the challenge of producing a stronger second-half display to keep its hopes alive in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
