2026 FIFA WORLD CUP: Declan Rice admits Frustration after Goalless Stalemate against Ghana

England were held to a frustrating 0–0 draw by Ghana in their Matchday 2 clash at the ongoing FIFA World Cup, in a contest defined more by structure and discipline than attacking invention.

England dominated long spells of possession but found it increasingly difficult to break down a compact Ghanaian block that defended deep, stayed organized, and restricted central access. Ghana’s game plan effectively neutralised England’s attacking rhythm, forcing them into wide areas with limited penetration in the final third.

England midfielder Declan Rice was candid after the match, acknowledging the challenge posed by Ghana’s defensive setup.

“It’s always difficult when you play against 11 behind the ball. Give credit to Ghana, they were very compact. It was tough. They are good players,” he said.

Despite late pressure, including sustained territorial dominance, England were unable to convert possession into clear-cut chances, as Ghana held firm to secure a valuable point in a tightly contested group.

The result leaves both sides with work to do heading into the final group fixtures, with qualification still finely balanced.
