In a statement released Tuesday, the Senegalese Football Federation provided more details about Edouard Mendy’s injury.
Having injured his knee against Norway, the Lions’ goalkeeper will miss the upcoming World Cup match against Iraq. Edouard Mendy will not be with Senegal to face Iraq on Friday, June 24, in the National Team’s final group match.
The Lions’ goalkeeper was injured during the defeat against Norway (2-3) and, as announced by the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) on Tuesday, will therefore be absent against the Iraqis, against whom Senegal will try to win convincingly to have any hope of qualifying for the Round of 32.
“Following a left knee injury sustained during the match against Norway, Edouard Mendy will be unavailable for Senegal’s next game. Further medical examinations are underway to accurately assess the nature of his injury and determine his continued participation in the competition ,” the Federation wrote on its social media. Mory Diaw takes over.
