2026 FIFA WORLD CUP: England and Argentina confirmed lineup for Semi-Final Showdown

England and Argentina have named formidable starting lineups for their highly anticipated FIFA World Cup semi-final clash, with a place in the final against Spain on the line.

Thomas Tuchel has retained England’s trusted 4-2-3-1 formation, combining defensive solidity with attacking flair as the Three Lions aim to end Argentina’s title defence.

Jordan Pickford starts in goal behind a back four of Reece James, John Stones, Marc Guéhi and Djed Spence. Declan Rice and Elliot Anderson form the double pivot in midfield, providing balance behind an attacking trio of Morgan Rogers, Jude Bellingham and Anthony Gordon. Captain Harry Kane leads the line as England’s focal point in attack.

Argentina, meanwhile, line up in a fluid attacking system spearheaded by captain Lionel Messi alongside Julián Álvarez. Lionel Scaloni has opted for a midfield featuring Alexis Mac Allister, Enzo Fernández and Leandro Paredes, with Giuliano Simeone providing width on the right.

At the back, Nicolás Tagliafico, Lisandro Martínez, Cristian Romero and Nahuel Molina will shield goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez, as La Albiceleste seek another appearance in the World Cup final.

The contest promises to be a fascinating tactical battle. England will rely on the creativity of Bellingham, the movement of Rogers and Gordon, and Kane’s finishing ability, while Argentina’s hopes rest on the brilliance of Messi, the relentless running of Álvarez and the experience of their battle-tested defence.

With Spain already waiting in the final after securing the first qualification spot, there is everything to play for as two footballing giants collide in a winner-takes-all encounter for the remaining place in the World Cup final.
