2026 FIFA WORLD CUP: Ghana Will Seek Fresh Visa Clearance for Partey to Play in Canada, Says Sports Minister

Ghana’s Sports Minister Kofi Adams has revealed that the government will take proactive steps to ensure midfielder Thomas Partey is available for selection should the Black Stars play any of their FIFA World Cup fixtures in Canada.

Speaking on national team logistics ahead of Ghana’s potential progression in the tournament, Adams confirmed that a fresh visa application will be submitted to facilitate Partey’s travel and participation in matches staged on Canadian soil.

“We will submit a fresh visa application for Thomas Partey to enable him feature in Canada should the Black Stars play any of their World Cup matches there,” the Sports Minister stated.

The clarification comes amid heightened administrative preparations surrounding Ghana’s World Cup campaign, with attention not only on on-field performance but also on ensuring player availability across different host nations.

Partey, one of Ghana’s most influential midfielders, remains central to the Black Stars’ ambitions in the competition, offering experience, control, and defensive balance in high-pressure matches.

With Ghana’s qualification secured, the Sports Ministry is working closely with football authorities to avoid any bureaucratic delays that could disrupt squad continuity during the tournament’s knockout stages or cross-border fixtures.

The development underscores the increasing complexity of World Cup logistics, particularly with matches spread across multiple countries, requiring teams to manage travel, documentation, and squad readiness with precision.

For Ghana, ensuring key players like Partey are cleared to travel could prove decisive as they aim to extend their campaign beyond the next stage and into the knockout rounds.
