Algerian referees will once again be involved in a major fixture at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as FIFA has officially appointed Mustapha Ghorbal as the fourth official for the clash between Mexico and Ecuador.
The match will be officiated by Slavko Vincic of Slovenia, assisted by Tomasz Kwiatkowski and Andraz Kovacic, as part of an all-European refereeing team rounded out by Algerian referee Ghorbal.
This appointment is the latest step in the career of the Algerian international referee, who is already no stranger to major competitions.
This marks his third time serving in this role at a World Cup, following his experiences in Qatar in 2022.
His compatriot Mokrane Gourari has also been selected by FIFA as a reserve assistant referee, further evidence of Algeria’s presence in the upper echelons of global refereeing.
