2026 FIFA WORLD CUP: Hossam Hassan Warns Belgium: Egypt Have “Surprises” Beyond Salah and Marmoush

Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan has praised Belgium’s star-studded squad ahead of their World Cup encounter but insisted the Pharaohs possess enough quality of their own to cause problems.

Speaking about the challenge of containing Belgium’s dangerous attackers, Hassan paid tribute to some of the European side’s biggest names, including Jérémy Doku, Romelu Lukaku and Kevin De Bruyne.

“Total respect to Belgium,” Hassan said. “They have incredible quality like Lukaku, Doku, and De Bruyne.”

However, the Egypt boss quickly shifted the focus to his own squad, expressing confidence that the North African side has the talent required to compete with one of the tournament’s strongest teams.

“But we also have our quality with players you know well like Salah and Marmoush,” he added. “Plus other surprises you will see on the pitch.”

The comments are likely to heighten anticipation ahead of the clash, with Egypt looking to make a strong statement against a Belgian team widely regarded as one of the most technically gifted sides in the competition.

Much of Egypt’s hopes will rest on the shoulders of captain Mohamed Salah and forward Omar Marmoush, but Hassan’s remarks suggest he is confident other members of his squad can step up on the big stage.

With Belgium boasting an array of attacking weapons and Egypt determined to showcase their own strengths, the match promises to be a fascinating tactical battle as both nations seek a positive start to their World Cup campaign.
