Ecuador came closest to breaking the deadlock, striking the woodwork twice through Janner Corozo Minda and Leonardo Campana Yeboah, leaving the Ivorians relieved to head into the break level.
The Elephants also had their chances and will feel they should be ahead after Bamba Touré squandered a golden opportunity in front of goal.
