2026 FIFA World Cup: Netherlands rise to top of Group F

After being held to a 2-2 draw by Japan on the first day, the Netherlands kicked off the second day with a brilliant 5-1 victory over Sweden.

Having already taken the lead before halftime, the Oranje stepped up the pace after the break to turn their dominance into a rout.

Brian Brobbey, in inspired form on offense, got his team off to a flying start with a quick first-half brace.

The Dutch then continued their scoring spree thanks to Cody Gakpo, who also scored twice after the break, before Crysencio Summerville capped off the evening with a fifth goal.

Sweden tried to respond and salvaged some pride thanks to Anthony Elanga, who was well set up on a quick counterattack.

But despite creating a few chances, the Scandinavians struggled against the Oranje’s speed and efficiency.

With this resounding victory, the Netherlands are back on track in the race for qualification, while Sweden will need to bounce back quickly in their next match.
