Cameroon controlled the majority of the ball in the opening 45 minutes, holding 62% of possession compared to Congo’s 38%. However, the Indomitable Lions struggled to generate quality chances with their dominance, failing to register a single shot on target out of their three total attempts.
Congo, by contrast, proved far more lethal on the break. The home side made their breakthrough in the 24th minute when Yvan Dimi set up G. Bantsiele to break the deadlock and put Congo ahead.
While Cameroon saw one shot blocked and sent two wide, Congo consistently tested the opposition defense, tallying six total shots—four of which were on target. Congo also earned three corner kicks to Cameroon’s two, though their eagerness to hit Cameroon on the transition saw them caught offside three times.
The hosts head into the interval with a narrow advantage, leaving Cameroon with work to do to turn their possession dominance into goals in the second half.
