Black Stars defender Gideon Mensah has apologised to Ghanaians following the team’s disappointing performance, admitting that the players failed to produce the display expected of them.
Mensah acknowledged that Ghana did not perform at the required level and accepted that the team also had to deal with an element of bad luck.
“We have to accept that luck wasn’t on our side and we probably didn’t perform as we were supposed to perform,” Mensah said.
The defender also praised the players who remained available for national duty despite a number of withdrawals, stressing that their decision to represent Ghana should be recognised.
“We need to appreciate the players for not hiding and coming out to represent the nation,” he added.
Mensah said the team understands the frustration of supporters and apologised to Ghanaians for failing to deliver the performance they expected from the Black Stars.
The Black Stars will now look to regroup and address their shortcomings.
