Zambia interim coach ‘Chicken’ George Lwandamina says Tuesday’s Group I qualifier against Togo will be an opportunity to revive Zambia’s campaign in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Speaking the pre-match press conference at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, Lwandamina says losing one game does to end Zambia’s run in the qualification race.
He says the team was slowly coming together with a blend of youngsters and seasoned campaigners.
“Having three points does not warrant that they (Togo) will come and collect three points again. We have to do our homework and we are playing at home. I am sure the boys will rise to the occasion,” he said. “We do have a chance, we have just played one game, every game is vital.”
Lwandamina says the team will be focused on redeeming themselves from the Match Day One loss to Algeria.
“All games are important and we are aware that we are coming from a loss and we have this opportunity to redeem ourselves and the boys are ready for that challenge,” he added.
Lwandamina says he would not entertain a blame game for the errors made in the first game.
“The defensive system does not remove everyone on the pitch. Everyone becomes a defender when you do not have the ball. I know you are driving into condemning the defensive line. That is not the only defence you have it is everyone,” he said.
Zambia hosts Togo on Tuesday in a Group I 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
