Morocco took control of the opening 45 minutes against Gabon, heading into the break with a well-deserved 1–0 lead after a commanding first-half display.
The Atlas Lions set the tempo early, dictating play with a staggering 74% ball possession compared to Gabon’s 26%. Morocco continuously probed the Gabonese defense, firing nine total shots and earning three corner kicks in a relentless attacking effort.
Gabon struggled to establish a rhythm under the sustained pressure, managing just three total shots and two corner kicks throughout the half. Their early defensive resolve was tested in the 27th minute when Azzedine Ounahi came close to opening the scoring, missing a clear opportunity to put Morocco ahead.
The breakthrough finally arrived in the 36th minute. Center-back Nayef Aguerd turned provider, setting up Noussair Mazraoui, who found the back of the net to give Morocco a deserved 1–0 advantage.
As the half drew to a close, Gabon’s frustration began to show. Defender Anthony Oyono picked up a yellow card in the 41st minute following a foul, marking the only booking of the half.
Morocco enters the interval in total control, leaving Gabon with significant tactical adjustments to make if they hope to turn the contest around in the second half.
