Fulham head coach Álvaro Arbeloa has praised Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey, describing him as a complete player with the qualities needed to emerge as a leader at the Premier League club.
Arbeloa, who has been impressed by Bassey’s attitude and professionalism, believes the Nigerian international possesses the technical, physical and personal attributes required to make a significant impact at Fulham.
Speaking about the defender, the former Real Madrid and Spain full-back said Bassey has “everything” needed to succeed, while also highlighting his character away from the pitch.
“Calvin is a proper player. He has everything. He’s a really funny guy, but when we have to work, he’s the first one,” Arbeloa said.
The Fulham boss also expressed his admiration for the 26-year-old, insisting that Bassey has the potential to become an important figure in the team’s dressing room.
“I really love Calvin. He can be our leader,” he added.
Bassey has established himself as an important part of Fulham’s defensive setup since joining the London club from Dutch side Ajax in 2023.
The versatile defender, who can operate both at centre-back and left-back, has also become a regular member of the Nigeria national team and continues to play a key role for the Super Eagles.
Arbeloa’s comments will come as a major boost to Bassey, particularly as the Fulham coach appears to be placing considerable trust in his ability to take on greater responsibility within the squad.
