UEFA : Aleksander Ceferin rules out FIFA presidency bid

Aleksander Čeferin has confirmed that he will not challenge Gianni Infantino in the 2027 FIFA presidential election. The UEFA president, who has led European football’s governing body since 2016, said he prefers to continue his work at UEFA rather than seek the presidency of FIFA.

The 58-year-old Slovenian has remained one of Infantino’s strongest critics in recent years, but he now intends to continue opposing the FIFA president from his current position.

Čeferin believes that staying out of the race makes his opposition to Infantino more credible and insists that UEFA will continue to push for a change at the top of FIFA. If Infantino decides to run again, Čeferin has suggested that another candidate could challenge him without revealing their identity.

CONCACAF president Victor Montagliani has emerged as one of the names mentioned as a possible alternative ahead of the election scheduled for March 2027 in Rabat.
