Samuel Eto’o Defends Gianni Infantino Amid Election Speculation

Cameroon football legend and FECAFOOT president Samuel Eto’o has come to the defence of FIFA president Gianni Infantino, insisting that he does not believe the FIFA chief has done anything wrong.

Eto’o questioned the timing of the criticism surrounding Infantino, suggesting that the developments are linked to the upcoming FIFA presidential election, in which Infantino is seeking another term.

“I don’t think that [FIFA] President Gianni Infantino has done anything wrong,” Eto’o said.

The former Barcelona and Inter Milan striker argued that the timing of the controversy was significant, pointing to Infantino’s involvement in the forthcoming election.

“I think the timing of all of that is because there’s an election coming out, when Gianni Infantino is standing,” Eto’o added.

Eto’o further maintained that the controversy should be viewed in the context of the electoral process rather than as evidence of wrongdoing by the FIFA president.

“All of this has happened because there’s an election coming out, that’s all there is,” he said.

Infantino’s leadership has attracted scrutiny in recent months as FIFA prepares for another presidential election, with Eto’o becoming one of the latest prominent figures in African football to publicly express support for the Swiss-Italian administrator.
