Champions Vipers made a worst possible start to their title defence following a 1-0 home defeat to visitors Entebbe UPPC at St. Mary’s stadium, Kitende.
Kevin Dayslva own goal decided the fixture in which the hosts were second best for most of the game. The Congolese import wild clearance from Thomas Ochungu cross in the 32nd minute turned out to be the winner.
It could have been worse for the Venoms if their ex-player Ibrahim Orit had scored the two glorious opportunities; one in each half. It is the first defeat for Vipers at Kitende since losing 1-0 to ironically, Abdallah Mubiru KCCA side in 2024.
Vipers will now turn attention to the Caf Champions League match against Mauritania’s Nouadhibou on Saturday September 5 while the Printers will face UPDF at Hamz stadium, Nakivubo in the league on Tuesday.
Action on match day one continues on Saturday with several matches on card including Villa vs. Kitara and KCCA vs. NEC at Wankulukuku and Lugogo respectively.
