Ghanaian winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku produced a lively individual performance at Old Trafford, but his efforts were overshadowed as Ipswich Town suffered a heavy 5–2 defeat to Manchester United.
Fatawu provided the spark for Ipswich’s opening goal in the 29th minute, displaying his pace and composure to create a moment of brilliance on the right flank.
The 22-year-old received the ball wide and immediately took on Manchester United defender Luke Shaw. With a burst of acceleration, Fatawu surged past the England international before reaching the edge of the penalty area and delivering a perfectly weighted ball across the box.
Leif Davis was on hand to meet the delivery on the volley, sending a powerful left-footed effort into the top-left corner to give Ipswich a 1–0 lead.
Fatawu remained one of Ipswich’s most dangerous attacking outlets throughout his time on the pitch. He created two big chances, registered two key passes and completed three successful dribbles, while also winning four ground duels.
However, Ipswich were unable to maintain their early advantage.
Manchester United levelled in the 40th minute through Bruno Fernandes after an Ipswich defensive mistake, shifting the momentum before the interval.
United then took complete control after the restart. Jacob Greaves’ own goal in the 56th minute put the hosts ahead before Fernandes added another from the penalty spot. The Portuguese midfielder completed his hat-trick soon afterwards as United raced into a commanding 4–1 lead.
Bryan Mbeumo added a fifth for the home side in the 82nd minute, with Chuba Akpom scoring a late consolation for Ipswich in stoppage time.
For Fatawu, the defeat was a frustrating end to what was otherwise an impressive individual outing. His pace, creativity and direct running repeatedly troubled Manchester United, but Ipswich’s defensive shortcomings ultimately overshadowed his contribution.
The Ghana international will take encouragement from his performance, even as Ipswich leave Old Trafford empty-handed.
