The 2026/27 summer transfer deadline day produced several major moves involving African footballers, with Senegal internationals Iliman Ndiaye and Ibrahim Mbaye and Belgian winger Malick Fofana among the standout names to change clubs.
The 2026/27 transfer window has therefore provided another reminder that African football talent remains highly sought-after in the world’s most commercially powerful domestic league.
Premier League clubs closed the window after another record-breaking spending spree, with total summer expenditure reaching approximately £3.46 billion. Manchester City were the biggest spenders, accounting for two headline deadline-day deals.
Iliman Ndiaye joins Manchester City for £65m
The biggest African transfer on deadline day was Senegal international Iliman Ndiaye’s move from Everton to Manchester City.
The 26-year-old forward completed a reported £65 million transfer to City, signing a five-year contract.
Ndiaye brings considerable Premier League experience to Manchester City after previously representing Sheffield United and Everton, with a spell at Marseille also part of his career.
The versatile Senegalese attacker can operate across the forward line and has represented Senegal at the 2022 and 2026 FIFA World Cups.
His move was part of Manchester City’s massive deadline-day spending, with the club also completing the £125 million signing of Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernández from Chelsea.
Ibrahim Mbaye completes Aston Villa move
Another major African transfer saw Senegalese forward Ibrahim Mbaye move from Paris Saint-Germain to Aston Villa.
The 18-year-old joined Villa permanently after spending eight years at PSG’s academy.
Mbaye made history at PSG when he became the club’s youngest-ever Ligue 1 starter at the age of 16 years, six months and 23 days.
He also switched his international allegiance from France to Senegal and has already established himself as part of the Teranga Lions setup.
Mbaye arrives at Aston Villa with an impressive trophy collection from his time in Paris, having won eight major honours, including two Champions League titles and two Ligue 1 championships.

Malick Fofana seals Sunderland move
