Bryan Mbeumo has made history for Manchester United after registering an assist on his UEFA Champions League debut, ending a 22 year wait for an African player to make a goal contribution for the club in the competition.
Mbeumo’s assist marks the first Champions League goal contribution by an African Manchester United player since Quinton Fortune scored against FC Porto on February 25, 2004.
The Cameroon international has also become the first Cameroonian to directly contribute to a Champions League goal for Manchester United since Eric Djemba Djemba achieved the feat in 2003.
The milestone adds another significant chapter to Mbeumo’s early Manchester United career, with the forward immediately making his mark on the European stage and reviving a record that had stood for more than two decades.
