Red Arrows Football Club has departed for Mauritius ahead of Sunday’s second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round tie against FC Rouge, carrying a 2 – 0 advantage from the first leg played in Zambia.
The Airmen left Kenneth Kaunda International Airport this morning aboard a South African Airways flight at 06h42 Zambiain time and are expected to arrive in Mauritius at about 16:00 hours, Zambian time.
Despite holding a two goal advantage, Head Coach Chisi Mbewe has called for caution and greater efficiency in front of goal and stressed that the need for the team to approach the return fixture with the seriousness it deserves.
“We are going to Mauritius carrying a two nil lead. I think our opponents are also preparing. So, the most important thing for us as we go to Mauritius is that we just need to be cautious. We need to ensure that we go there and utilise each of the chances that we have so that we can get the job done,” said Mbewe.
Meanwhile, the Director Sports, Col Maureen Sililo who is accompanying the team on the assignment, equally cautioned the players against complacency, saying the first leg advantage should not lead to a relaxed approach.
“We should not be complacent. We should not be satisfied with the two goals that we are going with. We should treat it as a new game altogether and win outright,” she said.
She said the Zambia Air Force Command had provided the team with the necessary support and that the responsibility now rested with the technical bench and players to deliver a positive result.
“Command has expressed nothing but are looking forward to a positive result. They have supported us with everything, so it is up to us now to record a success on this assignment,” she said.
The Airmen will now look to complete the job in Mauritius and secure progression in the competition.
