Ghanaian side Nations FC have been eliminated from the CAF Confederation Cup after drawing 1-1 with FC Diarra in the second leg of the preliminary round at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Nations FC entered the second leg needing a victory after suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to the Malian side in the first leg. The Ghanaian outfit started brightly as they searched for the goal that would bring the tie level on aggregate.
The hosts came close to breaking the deadlock in the 43rd minute but failed to convert a big opportunity, leaving the sides goalless at half-time.
Nations FC continued their efforts after the restart, but FC Diarra remained resilient and eventually secured the result they needed to progress.
The 1-1 draw meant FC Diarra advanced to the next preliminary round with a 2-1 aggregate victory, while Nations FC’s continental campaign came to an end.
Despite the elimination, Nations FC can take pride in a brave showing on their CAF debut, with the Division One side competing strongly against their more experienced Malian opponents.
