World Cup 2030 : Morocco takes another dig at Spain

Morocco has once again made its ambitions clear regarding the 2030 World Cup final, which Spain, Portugal and Morocco will co-host. Moroccan federation president Fouzi Lekjaa previously claimed that the Benslimane province would host the showpiece match, prompting FIFA to deny that it had already selected a venue.

Lekjaa has now addressed the issue again in an interview with Jeune Afrique, insisting that Morocco will defend its right to stage the final.

“It might be hotly contested by the Spanish. On the Moroccan side—true to our values—we have never spoken of a final; we follow the processes and respect the procedures and regulations,” Lekjaa said. He stressed that Morocco, Spain and Portugal should not approach the tournament through rivalry but through cooperation and complementarity. However, he made it clear that Morocco will continue to defend its interests throughout the process.

“We will always stand up for the rights of Africa and the Kingdom of Morocco, which, in my view, have the right to host a World Cup final for the second time in a century,” Lekjaa added. His latest comments once again highlight Morocco’s determination to secure the prestigious match, even as Spain also reportedly wants to host the final.
