The Lesotho Football Association President, Lijane Nthunya, has praised a historic sponsorship announcement in which Stanlib Lesotho has joined forces with the Premier League Management Committee for a M250,000 season-long Man of the Match sponsorship, which will see players receive M1,000 in each of the Premier League matches that will be played during the 2026/2027 season.
“What brought us together today is very important for football and I wish to remind you that our vision is to bring back the winning mentality in our players and teams,” the LeFA President said.
“Therefore, what is happening today is exactly what is in our manifesto, to reward excellence. Our work is to improve football and its standards. We have to be honest that our standards are below our counterparts and by joining hands with us to improve football, it will help us regain our status and compete better than some of the countries who we used to be ahead of.”
“I think I must reveal an observation I just made. Stanlib has 25 years operating and have you realized that I was elected into this office on the 25th of October 2025. You see that makes 25 a very important number.”
“At this point, I wish to thank and congratulate our PLMC office. It is true that during the past season, we had this Man of the Match accolade, which was for only a few matches, but today we ink a milestone in that throughout the season we will have prize money for Man of the Match. This is a milestone, it goes into the history books of our football.”
“To the PLMC Committee, we are proud of you and you deserve a round of applause. I won’t leave behind that in our vision, there is something very close to my heart, to have legends and veterans play a role in our football and I’m very happy that our legend, Ntate Ts’epo Hlojeng, played a huge role working with the PLMC to bring us this sponsor and he too deserves a round of applause.”
“This is very important and like I said, very close to my heart, and also knowing that they will have a role to play in the implementation of the Player of the Match awards and this forms part of our manifesto to have the legends and veterans of the game hands on.”
“Coming to you Stanlib, truly, we are very thankful that today you have decided to join forces with football and help in the development of football. We are truly proud and praise your effort. As LeFA, we have the Premier League, A-Division, Women Super League, B-Division and C-Division.”
“That is how big we are and I felt I should give you an idea of our leagues, but I think you have started where it is necessary because the Premier League is the eldest child of LeFA and they are the face of our football and we are proud of this sponsorship.”
“The sponsorship is very big because it’s going to motivate our players to work harder and when they work hard, it will help improve their teams and more importantly, it will help transform the lives of the players. You have to understand how difficult it is for football players in the country, but what they will be getting from the prize monies will change their lives and that of football in the country.”
