Kakamega Homeboyz chairman Cleophas Shimanyula has called on Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed to resign saying he had failed to govern the game since coming into office.
Speaking while unveiling the new jersey for Homeboyz ahead of the new FKF Premier League season, Shimanyula accused club and FKF chairmen for the mess currently bedeviling the sport saying he warned them against electing Hussein Mohammed.
The 2026/27 FKF Premier League season is currently suspended due to a legal dispute and court orders regarding the federation’s 2025 promotion and relegation rules.
Kariobangi Sharks challenged their relegation under the controversial 2025 Football Kenya Federation regulations, arguing the rules were adopted without proper General Assembly consent.
“I want Hussein Mohammed to resign immediately,” a fuming Shimanyula told Africa Top Sports. “We have seen enough of him since he took over office and we don’t want to see this kind of mess continue.
“Hussein Mohammed has done nothing to help the game, he is currently campaigning for UDA officials while his house FKF is burning. What kind of a boss did we elect, is Kenyan football cursed?
Shimanyula added: “For the Kenyan game to continue, Hussein Mohammed must vacate office with his team. We must start fresh and get a new office to take our football forward.
“I also want to castigate the FKF and club chairmen for the mess we are in currently. I warned them against electing Hussein but they didn’t listen to me, they only went for their stomach and forgot about football.
“The chairmen voted with their stomachs, and were not interested in who was the best candidate to lead our game. Now you can see nothing is moving at FKF, the league is yet to start.”
Shimanyula further said club presidents had spent a lot of money to prepare their respective teams for the season, saying it was painful to prepare for the teams whereas the league was still on hold.
“We have spent millions preparing our teams, but there is nothing moving, FKF chairmen must bite the bullet and concede their mistakes, they brought us here, they never listened, they voted for their stomachs, it is a shame, a shame indeed,” added Shimanyula.
Shimanyula concluded: “If Hussein doesn’t resign, then we will be forced to kick him out. He should just do the honourable thing and resign. He should not wait. I think he knows he doesn’t have anyone’s trust by now.”
Earlier this year, Hussein Mohamed was suspended by the federation’s National Executive Committee (NEC) over an alleged KSh 42 million financial scandal tied to procurement and insurance services.
Nine out of fourteen NEC members accused Mohamed, acting General Secretary Dennis Gicheru, and nominated NEC member Abdullahi Yussuf of misusing KSh 42 million intended for player insurance during the African Nations Championship (CHAN).
Later world governing body FIFA rejected the suspension after determining that the internal faction did not follow the proper due process and constitutional rules outlined under Article 41 of the FKF Constitution.
Despite ongoing leadership friction, Mohammed has maintained his position with legal and global backing.
