Barcelona: Karim Adeyemi is making a strong impression

Karim Adeyemi arrived at Barcelona without generating much excitement, with the German forward initially expected to provide depth rather than challenge for a starting role.

His recent struggles and off-field issues had raised doubts about the move, while many viewed him as another squad option who would have to settle for limited appearances. However, after seven competitive matches, including six in La Liga and one in the Champions League, Adeyemi has quickly changed that perception with three goals and two assists in seven games, despite starting only three times.

Adeyemi has particularly impressed with his ability to create danger and unsettle defenders. In Barcelona’s 7–2 win over Racing Santander on Wednesday, he provided an assist, completed six dribbles, created four chances and won two penalties. His pace makes him dangerous in open spaces, while his technique allows him to operate effectively in tight areas. The former Borussia Dortmund player can also play on either wing and has already developed a strong understanding with Raphinha and Lamine Yamal.

Adeyemi’s performances have now turned him into a genuine candidate for a starting place, with a potential battle against Anthony Gordon for the left-wing position. Gordon has also impressed since arriving in Catalonia, creating healthy competition within Flick’s squad. With the German coach willing to rotate his players, Adeyemi’s pace, aggression and direct approach give Barcelona another attacking weapon and could earn him an increasingly important role as the season progresses.
